CALL TO WORSHIP

Mr. Michael J. Badger

Trustee
Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association

Inspired by Psalm 46

Leader:
God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.

People:
Therefore we will not fear,
though the earth give way
 and the mountains fall
into the heart of the sea.

Leader:
The Lord Almighty is with us.
The God of Jacob is our fortress.

People:
Come and see what the Lord has done.
He makes wars cease
to the ends of the earth.

Leader:
He says:

“Be still and know that I AM God.

I will be exalted among the nations.

I will be exalted in all the earth.”

People:
The Lord Almighty is with us.
The God of Jacob is our mighty fortress.

*HYMN

“A Mighty Fortress Is Our God”

Luther trans Hedge / Luther

A mighty fortress is our God,

A bulwark never failing;

Our helper He amid the flood

Of mortal ills prevailing.

For still our ancient foe

Doth seek to work us woe;

His craft and power are great,

And armed with cruel hate,

On earth is not his equal.

Did we in our own strength confide,

Our striving would be losing,

Were not the right Man on our side,

The Man of God’s own choosing.

Dost ask who that may be?

Christ Jesus, it is He;

Lord Sabaoth, His name,

From age to age the same,

And He must win the battle.

And though this world, with devils filled,

Should threaten to undo us,

We will not fear, for God hath willed

His truth to triumph through us.

The Prince of Darkness grim,

We tremble not for him;

His rage we can endure,

For lo, his doom is sure;

One little word shall fell him.

That word above all earthly powers,

No thanks to them, abideth;

The Spirit and the gifts are ours,

Thro’ Him Who with us sideth.

Let goods and kindred go, This mortal life also;

The body they may kill;

God’s truth abideth still;

His kingdom is forever.

*APOSTLES’ CREED

I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven an earth: and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day He arose from the dead;

He ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.   Amen

*HYMN

“In the Cross of Christ I Glory”

Bowring / Conkey

In the cross of Christ I glory,

Towering o’er the wrecks of time;

All the light of sacred story

Gathers round its head sublime.

When the woes of life o’ertake me,

Hopes deceive, and fears annoy,

Never shall the cross forsake me.

Lo! It glows with peace and joy.

When the sun of bliss is beaming

Light and love upon my way,

From the cross the radiance streaming

Adds more luster to the day.

Bane and blessing, pain and pleasure,

By the cross are sanctified;

Peace is there that knows no measure,

Joys that through all time abide.

In the cross of Christ I glory,

Towering o’er the wrecks of time;

All the light of sacred story

Gathers round its head sublime.

ANTHEM

“Ride on King Jesus”

arr. Robert Fountain

Ride on, King Jesus, Ride on, King Jesus,

Ride, ride, conquering King,

I wanna go to Heaven in the morning.

If you see my sister, just tell her for me,

I’m gonna ride my horse on the battlefield!

I wanna go to Heaven in the morning.

If you see my brother, just tell him for me,

I’m gonna ride my horse on the battlefield!

I wanna go to Heaven in the morning.

Ride on, King Jesus, Ride on, King Jesus,

Ride, ride, conquering King,

I wanna go to Heaven in the morning.

If you see my mother, just tell her for me,

I’m gonna ride my horse on the battlefield!

I wanna go to Heaven in the morning.

Ride on, King Jesus, Ride on, King Jesus,

Ride, ride, conquering King,

I wanna go to Heaven in the morning.

Ride on, King Jesus!  Ride!

*CLOSING HYMN

“Great is Thy Faithfulness”

Chisolm/Runyan

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God, my Father,

There is no shadow of turning with Thee;

Thou changest not,
Thy compassions they fail not;

As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.

Great is Thy faithfulness!

Great is Thy faithfulness!

Morning by morning new mercies I see;

All I have needed Thy hand hath provided —

Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me!

Summer and winter,
and springtime and harvest,

Sun, moon and stars in their courses above

Join with all nature in manifold witness

To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.

Great is Thy faithfulness!

Great is Thy faithfulness!

Morning by morning new mercies I see;

All I have needed Thy hand hath provided —

Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me!

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,

Thine own dear presence
to cheer and to guide;

Strength for today
and bright hope for tomorrow,

Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

Great is Thy faithfulness!

Great is Thy faithfulness!

Morning by morning new mercies I see;

All I have needed Thy hand hath provided —

Great is Thy faithfulness,

Great is Thy faithfulness,

Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me!

BENEDICTION

Dresden Amen
