The Auditorium Pavilion

The structure now called the Auditorium Pavilion was originally known as the Jerusalem Pavilion. It had under its roof for many years a model of Jerusalem. This was presented to Ocean Grove in 1881 by the Rev. W.W. Wythe M.D., Pastor of St. Paul’s Church in Ocean Grove, who had designed and constructed the model.

The model was a miniature representation in relief and color. It was not a model of Jerusalem during the life of Jesus Christ but instead was a representation of the then-current city of the late 19th Century. There were over 1200 miniature trees. So accurate was the reproduction that persons who had visited Jerusalem were able to identify areas and individual buildings. When the man who cared for its rebuilding each summer after the ravages of winter died, it fell into disrepair and was finally cemented over. The pavilion now serves many groups for a variety of activities.
